Originally opened in 1969, Canterbury Stables has welcomed generations of horse riders and enthusiasts through its gates.
At the time, the property sat quietly off Wrightsville Avenue, surrounded by a much different Wilmington than the one we know today. Through decades of growth and change, Canterbury has remained a little pocket of pastoral beauty, complete with open grounds, mature trees, paddocks, and, of course, the horses that remain part of its character.
What started as an equestrian property became a place filled with memories for countless riders, families, and friends.
A New Chapter for Canterbury
As Wilmington has grown around Canterbury, the property has evolved right along with it. Today, these 12 acres offer a rare combination: a peaceful, countryside-inspired setting in the heart of Wilmington, just minutes from Wrightsville Beach, Historic Downtown, hotels, restaurants, and other local destinations.
The farm now serves as a backdrop for weddings, galas, private celebrations, and special events, bringing together the original character of the property with thoughtfully designed spaces for gathering and entertaining.
It is a new chapter for Canterbury, but one that still feels connected to what has always made this place special.
